Lopetegui made a mistake with his star man after bitterly disappointing official announcement

Julen Lopetegui has made a mistake with Jarrod Bowen after England squad announcement. West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen has been left out of the latest England squad selected by Lee Carsley.

Jarrod Bowen has endured a tough start to the season with West Ham, just like many of his teammates in all fairness.

As a result, the 27-year-old has been omitted from the latest England squad named by interim boss Lee Carsley. West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen admitted last week that he wants to stay with us for the rest of his career, and that was so good for the fans to hear.

    .

The winger, signed from Hull City for £20 million in January 2020, is a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium. The West Ham fans absolutely adore him, but it seems like those outside of the club don’t quite appreciate his qualities the way that we do.

His omission from the latest England squad is yet more evidence of that, and in my opinion, Julen Lopetegui has a lot to answer for.

Jarrod Bowen England snub a big blow

Missing out on the Three Lions squad will have been a big blow for the left-footed Hammers attacker. It’s actually good news for us as a club, because he’ll have two weeks at home after Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town.

That said, he would have obviously preferred to have been involved with Carsley’s latest squad.

Bowen hasn’t been given anywhere near enough chances to impress for England, in spite of being involved in the last few squads.

He deserves so much more, and actually should consider retiring from international duty as far as I’m concerned. Having said that, his form actually hasn’t been good enough this season, so he can have no qualms about being omitted from the England squad.

I think that Lopetegui is actually to blame for Bowen’s poor form – for two separate reasons.

Lopetegui to blame for Bowen woes

Firstly, naming the 27-year-old as the Hammers club captain was just a terribly poor decision.

Bowen is a brilliant footballer, but he’s definitely not a leader, and he never has been. The former Hull City player is very quiet on the pitch. He’s never in the referees’ faces, and it doesn’t come naturally to him to give his teammates a rollocking when they’re underperforming.

As a result of being made the new club captain, Bowen now has more responsibility both on and off the pitch, and there are questions being asked regarding whether he’s handling that pressure well. He shouldn’t have been made skipper in my opinion, end of story. Secondly, Lopetegui’s usage of Bowen as a central striker has really hindered the forward’s form this season.

The 27-year-old is at his best when playing out wide on the right. He doesn’t have the physicality or presence needed to play as a central striker, and that has showed when he’s started there this season.

Julen Lopetegui needs to move Jarrod Bowen back to the right wing as a matter of urgency. If the Spaniard does exactly that, Jarrod may well rediscover his best form and in turn, earn arecall to the England squad.
