Lopetegui and Steidten ‘in danger’ of double West Ham sacking – expert. Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted both manager Julen Lopetegui and technical director Tim Steidten are “in danger” at West Ham.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed both could be out of a job by Christmas if form doesn’t turn around at the London Stadium. West Ham have started poorly under new boss Lopetegui, winning just one of six Premier League games to sit 14th in the table.
The Irons were also uncerimoniously dumped out of the League Cup last month, losing 5-1 away at Liverpool in the third round.
That is despite mammoth transfer spending at the London Stadium in the summer window, with more than £120million (as per Transfermarkt) of new signings arriving at the club.
West Ham could sack Lopetegui and Steidten, says Wyness. Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We discussed this before the start of the season.
“Lopetegui was always going to be in the crosshairs, and he had to start well.
“Tim Steidten, it was always said that he and David Moyes had a big fight – and it seems he won that battle. Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know, I’m going on gossip.
“With Steidten also being responsible for picking Lopetegui, and also potentially giving Moyes a hard time – certainly, he will be the one people are looking at.
“I think both are in danger.
“West Ham have got to turn this around quickly. I’ve looked at their fixtures, and in the next five games they have to find a break.
“The manager and sporting director have got what they have asked for to a great degree, and they’ve got to deliver.
“We all know in football that if you don’t deliver, we know the answer. At Christmas if things aren’t turned around, both of them should be looking at their resumes.”
