West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez will continue to be monitored carefully by West Ham medical staff to ensure he fully recovers from the hamstring tear he suffered this summer.
Medical expert and sports scientist Dr Rajpal Brar has claimed the Mexican will need his situation “monitored carefully” if he is to recover without any reoccurrence or other problems.
Edson Alvarez tore his hamstring in the 30th minute of Mexiico’s first Copa America fixture against Michail Antonio’s Jamaica. The captain decided to stay with his team throughout the rest of the tournament, which meant he received treatment. However, it also meant he returned late to pre-season training, so he missed the Hammers’ season opener against Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Dr Rajpal Brar said: “Based on his timeline, he was out with what was very likely a Grade 4 full rupture in the hamstring. Best case is that he’s returned without any recurring issues and only time will tell if that’s the case.
“The worst case is another major reinjury which can see him being out for months. The club will be monitoring his situation carefully for the next few weeks despite his return to first-team football.“
Edson Alvarez will stay with West Ham United over the International break rather than going to play for Mexico, in order to continue his road back to full fitness. He will work with the coaches and medical staff to ensure he is fully fit to face Fulham after the international break.
