West Ham ace Crysencio Summerville could start kicking up a stink after what he was promised in the summer. West Ham United signed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United in a hugely exciting transfer move from the club.
That came just before Crysencio Summerville actually admitted that he told his father two years ago that he wanted to play for West Ham one day.
West Ham signed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds for just £20 million in the summer transfer window (Florian Plettenberg) – outstanding value in this day and age.
And amazingly, it has been claimed that Kalvin Phillips played a pivotal role in the Dutchman deciding to move to the London Stadium. I personally have no doubts that Summerville will be a major success with the Hammers – he has absolutely everything needed to shine for us on the very biggest stage.
However, could a problematic situation arise at some point in the near future? We have so much strength in depth at the club right now.
There is so much competition for places, and that’s so refreshing to see after years of poor squad management from David Moyes.
However, it may well cause some problems as well.
According to a report from The Athletic, Summerville opted to join West Ham over other clubs in the summer in order to secure more regular playing time.
“The attacker had interest from three other Premier League clubs but chose West Ham to secure playing time.” Liverpool and Chelsea were said to be some of the clubs apparently keen on signing Summerville in the summer (TNT Sports).
West Ham won the race for the 22-year-old in the end though, reportedly due to promises of more playing time. I know it’s still early days, but Summerville has only played 21 Premier League minutes out of a potential 270 so far.
He did get a start in the Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth, and played 74 minutes, but the Premier League is where Summerville will want to make a name for himself with West Ham. It’s certainly a situation to keep our eyes on. I fully expect him to start our Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool, but it will be very interesting to see how many minutes he’s given during the Premier League games against Fulham, Chelsea, Brentford and Ipswich Town after the current international break.
Crysencio Summerville will be a big player for West Ham
First and foremost, he’s absolutely rapid, and that pace is something we really need across the front-line.
I actually believe that the end goal could well be to have Jarrod Bowen play through the middle, Mohammed Kudus out wide on the right, Lucas Paqueta in the number 10 role and Summerville in the left wing position. Summerville plays with a certain kind of youthful exuberance and fearlessness that we don’t really possess right now.
The former Leeds man will definitely need time to adapt to Lopetegui’s system and demands at the London Stadium.
However, once everything falls into place, I have no doubts that Crysencio Summerville will be a huge hit with West Ham. Everyone just needs to give him the time he needs. And crucially, Summerville himself needs to be patient.
