Hammer obviously doesn’t think he’ll ever play for West Ham again after bizarre message to fans

Nayef Aguerd obviously doesn’t think he’ll ever play for West Ham again after bizarre message to fans. West Ham United decided to send Nayef Aguerd to Real Sociedad on loan on transfer deadline day.

Nayef Aguerd actually rejected a move to leave West Ham to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad before he linked up with Sociedad – one that would have seen us pick up £21 million.

West Ham signed Nayef Aguerd from Rennes in the summer of 2022 for a fee believed to be worth £30 million (Sky Sports). He proved to be nothing more than a huge liability for the Hammers though.

The 28-year-old was shipped out on loan to Sociedad on transfer deadline day by Julen Lopetegui on a straight loan – the Spanish club do not have either an option nor an obligation to sign him permanently next summer. And that very important fact is what makes Aguerd’s ‘goodbye’ message to the West Ham fans so bizarre.

Nayef Aguerd obviously doesn’t think he’ll play for West Ham again

The 28-year-old defender hasn’t been involved for the Hammers at all during competitive games since Lopetegui took over from David Moyes.

So it was no surprise at all when he left the London Stadium to link up with Real Sociedad on transfer deadline day. The only strange thing about it all was that Lopetegui didn’t bring in another central defender to replace the former Rennes man.

That said, I’d prefer us to promote a youth player like Kaelan Casey, rather than waste money on an ageing stop-gap signing.

I actually think that the 19-year-old Hammers academy product is better than the Morocco international anyway! So we won’t be able to call upon Aguerd this season, and it seems like we won’t be able to ever again, judging by his latest message:

That’s just an utterly bizarre message for a player who has left the club on a straight loan to send to the fans.

Nayef Aguerd always a bad fit for West Ham

It is quite clear to see from that message that Aguerd has absolutely no intention of returning to the London Stadium. Does he think he’s left the club on a permanent deal? Or does he know something that we don’t?

Do Real Sociedad actually have an obligation to buy him – one that wasn’t disclosed? Who knows, but one thing I will say is that Nayef Aguerd leaving West Ham is the ideal outcome for all parties involved.

The 28-year-old wasn’t suited to the physicality and intensity of the Premier League one little bit unfortunately. Hopefully he enjoys his football out in Spain with Sociedad – La Liga will be a far better fit for the Moroccan.
