Julen Lopetegui has overseen a huge squad overhaul at West Ham this summer already, but his business is clearly far from done. The West Ham fans are buzzing with excitement about what the future holds for us, and Lopetegui has insisted that he’s after even more new signings.
However, the Spaniard will have to get rid of some of the fringe players first, before he can even think about making any new signings. The West Ham manager has a seriously talented group of players at his disposal now, but there is one gaping hole.
The Hammers’ central midfield looks incredibly weak right now, and we’re lacking a ball-carrying midfielder. Lopetegui has to address that if he is to guide us to a successful campaign on all fronts. However, one key target now appears to be off the menu.

It seems like Lopetegui will now have to firmly focus his attention elsewhere. Richard Rios has been on the West Ham radar over the past month or so, and we apparently launched a £16.6 million bid for the Colombia international.
Now though, a new update has emerged regarding our hopes of signing him.
According to Colombian website El Futbolero, Palmeiras are now demanding a quite ludicrous £85 million for Rios, 24. That really is a hands off warning if I’ve ever seen one!
West Ham have no chance of signing Richard Rios
Standing at 6ft 2in tall with energy, power, dynamism, stamina and athleticism in abundance, he is well-versed in beating the opposition’s press with ease. The Colombian midfielder clearly possesses the physical attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.
Richard Rios would be a very special signing for West Ham, and he would totally transform us as a team overnight. However, the new demands from Palmeiras for the 24-year-old makes a deal impossible this summer.
I’m sure that West Ham would be able to sign Richard Rios for less than £85 million, but the fact of the matter is that Palmeiras clearly don’t want to sell him. Let’s hope that Lopetegui manages to get deals done for other targets before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow night.
