“Sour Grapes” | Bitter Pundit Performs Impressive U-Turn

“Sour Grapes” | Bitter Pundit Performs Impressive U-Turn. Former England striker and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has shown some nerve.

After spending the tail end of last season as a chief cheerleader for the “be careful what you wish for” brigade, Shearer has now decided that he quite likes what he sees at West Ham.

Honestly, you couldn’t make it up. The Premier League record goal scorer scolded Hammers fans for daring to dream last season. Shearer joined the likes of Alan Brazil, Sam Allardyce, Stuart Pearce, and Richard Keys in criticising the club for not extending David Moyes‘ contract with the Irons.

Overseas Options Are Bad News for Irons

It has since been revealed by both Moyes himself and Karren Brady that it was the Scotsman’s decision to reject the offer of a new West Ham deal as head coach.

However, that didn’t stop Shearer and his cronies from condescendingly tutting as Tim Steidten lined up Julen Lopetegui to replace Moyes. Richard Keys labeled Steidten a “sneaky weasel,” while Paul Merson declared that Lopetegui couldn’t win a trophy even if he managed West Ham for 25 years.

Fortunately, Shearer seems to have stopped consuming sour grapes with a side order of bitter, declaring to Gary Lineker last week that he quite liked the look of West Ham’s business. Awkward!

The former Toon striker went even further yesterday by declaring, “It will take a little bit of time to bed all of those players in and get an understanding of where they are, but I would be encouraged if I were a West Ham fan. I’d have pretty high hopes.” Crikey, quite a nifty piece of reversing from Shearer. Let’s get that man a nice claret & blue kit (complete with a green sleeve of course).
