Report: West Ham star who divides opinion to be sold back to old club after just a year

West Ham star who divides opinion to be sold back to old club after just a year. A West Ham star who very much divides opinion among fans looks set to be sold back to his old club after just one year.

There are no just nine days left of what has been – on paper at least – a superb summer window for West Ham.

Led by Tim Steidten, the Hammers have made eight signings to overhaul an ageing and undersized squad. But it has been confirmed the Irons are not necessarily done there. More movement is expected both in and out of the London Stadium.

West Ham have made it clear to Hammers News that at least two or three players must depart in order for the club to make further signings by August 30th. The Hammers have been linked with midfielders, defenders and strikers.

A host of players deemed surplus to requirements are available for sale. And clinching one or two sales will directly dictate West Ham’s ability to complete any further transfers.

West Ham must ship players out in order to make further signings

So news of departures will indicate West Ham are working on a player coming in – as is the case with Carlos Soler at PSG.

Earlier this summer there were rumours Konstantinos Mavropanos was attracting interest from other clubs. That came as something of a surprise to many West Ham fans given the big Greek centre-back had failed to truly establish himself last season.

Mavropanos was signed for £17.5m from VfB Stuttgart. The 26-year-old has all the ingredients to be a cult hero at West Ham and an accomplished Premier League defender.

But like Nayef Aguerd before him, Mavropanos has proved somewhat error prone thus far. Many Hammers fans feel he deserves more time after impressing in some big games – such as the 2-0 win over his old club Arsenal last season.

Others think the club must cut their losses on the player, especially if it facilitates a new signing coming in. Mavropanos could be sold back to old club. Now the West Ham star who divides opinion to looks like he could be sold back to his old club after just one year.

That’s according to a new report emerging from Germany.

Kicker claims Stuttgart want to re-sign Mavropanos after missing out on a host of other centre-back targets. The report states that Mavropanos’ future at West Ham is not certain and that he is at the top of a shortlist the club has put together.

It remains to be seen whether this would be a loan with obligation or a straight sale. Or indeed whether West Ham sanction it given Kurt Zouma and Aguerd – both left out of the squad for the opening day defeat to Aston Villa – are likely to leave too.

Zouma has found completing a move difficult thus far. So perhaps West Ham face the reality of having him on the books for another year.

Have West Ham changed their stance on star who divides opinion?

With Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman, West Ham’s new first choice central defensive pair, game time is going to be hard to come by for Mavropanos this season.

Having said that Julen Lopetegui ended the Villa game with all three of them at the back. If the Greece captain is allowed to leave it will be something of a climbdown from the Hammers.

Back in April when he was being linked with a shock summer move to Italy, a top spokesman inside West Ham stated Mavropanos was not for sale unless an extraordinary offer is received. That situation may well have changed in light of West Ham’s expensive window and successful capture of Kilman and Todibo.
