‘Isn’t smart financial business’ Richard Keys says West Ham have really overpaid for one signing

Richard Keys has history of firing shots at West Ham United, and he’s just been at it again. He was a staunch supporter of David Moyes, but he even went as far as criticising the for Hammers boss after the Scot’s comments about PGMOL last season. Richard Keys always seems to have a problem with the West Ham fans.

‘Get back in your lane and be careful what you wish for’ is a common mantra regurgitated consistently by Keys, when discussing the Hammers supporters. He just seems to have a beef with us for some reason, but that’s fine. Keys has now stuck his nose in our business yet again, this time questioning why we paid so much money for one specific signing this summer.

Richard Keys says West Ham have overpaid for one signing

The Hammers have been relentless in the transfer window this summer. Aaron Wan-Bissaka became our eighth new signing of the summer earlier today, and Lopetegui seemingly isn’t finished yet. Pele is interviewed by Richard Keys during the Football Extravaganza at the Grosvenor House Hotel on October 29, 2013 in London, England. However, Keys has questioned the wisdom behind one of the new additions at the London Stadium, when writing his regular blog.

Niclas Fullkrug joined the Hammers earlier this summer, but the 67-year-old thinks we paid far too much money for him. Keys said, “I don’t see any surprises, but West Ham will be interesting. I believe they’ll miss Moyes badly. Lopetegui is a huge gamble. This is a man who doesn’t hang about if things aren’t going his way – and he won’t have much his own way working with mssrs Brady and Sullivan.“

“He’s doing the right things at the moment mind you. Getting the club to spend £27m on a 32-year-old centre forward isn’t smart financial business, but I like Fullkrug and I think he’s perfect for the English game. There’s no way Moyes could’ve spent like that though.”

There are a couple of problems here.

Firstly, we only paid £22.5 million to sign the Germany international. The £27 million fee includes add-ons, and will only be paid in full if he’s a big hit for us (BBC). Secondly, he’s 31, not 32, and finally, he is a proven international who has scored goals and chalked up assists wherever he has played.

It goes without saying that he’s a huge upgrade on Michail Antonio. And if Niclas Fullkrug fires West Ham into Europe this season, Richard Keys will be left with egg on his face.
