The Hammers beat Newcastle to the 27-year-old’s signature in what was a big statement from the East London outfit. Craig Dawson spoke highly of the Hammers to Kilman when the centre-back asked him about potentially moving to the London Stadium. Kilman has settled into life at West Ham very quickly indeed, and he will clearly be a regular feature in Lopetegui’s side this season.
The fact that the Hammers owners agreed to pay £40 million to prise him away from Molineux shows just how desperate Lopetegui was to sign him.
The 27-year-old will play a key role for us this season, there’s no doubting that, and Lopetegui could be set to make a very big call indeed on the 6ft 4in man mountain.

With the signing of Kilman, the Hammers boss has made sure that his side will head into the new season in much better shape defensively than we did last term. Lopetegui is still said to be on the hunt for a new centre-back, but for now, we can be thankful that we at least have Kilman.
He will definitely make us much more of a cohesive defensive unit, what with his leadership and organisational skills. Now, the West Ham head coach could be about to make an extremely big call on the former Wolves man.
According to talkSPORT, Lopetegui is considering making Kilman the new West Ham club captain. Jarrod Bowen is said to be under consideration as well.
I personally think that a defender is always the better choice to be captain, because he has a better view of the game unfolding. We all know that Kilman is a great leader of men – he was club captain at Wolves after all.
He is a powerhouse of a man who dominates opposing strikers in the air, but he’s very good with his feet as well. It goes without saying that the 27-year-old is a major upgrade on Hammers duo Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.
I have no doubts that Max Kilman will play a key role for West Ham this season, and Julen Lopetegui could be set to give him a really big responsibility to go with it. I think making the centre-back the new Hammers club captain will be the correct call – I know he’ll be up to the challenge.
