Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham are trying to decide whether they should spend ‘big money’ on ‘brilliant’ player

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t made that much of a splash in the summer transfer window just yet.

Spurs have signed Archie Gray from Leeds, but, other than that, it’s been all quiet on the incomings front for Spurs.

Tottenham don’t need a huge overhaul this summer, but they do need to make some new additions.

Luckily, it sounds as though reinforcements could be on the way.

Indeed, Dominic Solanke has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Debrief, Spurs are now internally discussing whether or not they should spend big money on the striker.

Tottenham internally discussing if they should sign Dominic Solanke

Romano shared what he knows about the ‘brilliant‘ striker.

“For Solanke it is different, for Solanke Tottenham have already started talks on player’s side and on club’s side with Bournemouth to explore a potential move for Solanke. Now it is about making an internal decision together with Ange Postecoglou to decide if they want to spend big money on Solanke or not,” Romano said.

“He has a release clause, a very special clause, it’s complicated, something around £60-65m for Solanke, Tottenham are considering what they want to do with Solanke.”

    Solanke would be very expensive

£65m for Dominic Solanke is a lot of money, but there’s a strong case to be made that he would be worth it.

Bear in mind that Spurs spent £60m on Richarlison two years ago, and this one looks like something of a no-brainer.

Solanke is much more clinical and much more complete than Richarlison, so it’s fair to say that his value should be higher.

However, at the same time, two wrongs don’t make a right, and just because Richarlison cost so much doesn’t necessarily mean that Spurs should go for Solanke at a similar price-point.

Jamie O’Hara thinks this would be an excellent deal, but whether or not the higher-ups at Tottenham agree remains to be seen.
