West Ham have reportedly begun talks with rivals over the signing of a 24-year-old winger. With Said Benrahma joining Lyon, Maxwel Cornet hardly ever being available and Lucas Paqueta’s future up in the air, it’s not hard to see why West Ham are so desperate to sign a left sided winger.
It seems like rather than focusing on one deal at a time like they normally do, the Hammers are trying to get deals done for a striker, a right-back, and a winger all at the same time. While talks with players to fill the first two of those positions seem to be slightly more advanced, that hasn’t stopped them from reaching out to clubs about signing the latter.
Recently, Football Insider have reported that West Ham have begun preliminary talks with Arsenal about the signing of Reiss Nelson. Although the player was previously keen to stay in North London, it seems like he may not have realised he needs a move away for the betterment of his career.
Arsenal are looking to offload the 24-year-old, but they could still demand a high fee due to him being contracted to the club until 2027.
Although he’s never really had the opportunity to show what he’s worth at the Emirates, playing just 49 games across 6 Premier League seasons, he still has plenty of time to develop and reach his potential. The fact he’s homegrown could also appeal massively to our Irons, especially now that Flynn Downes has joined Southampton permanently.
Obviously, as with any signing, the biggest factor will be what the Gunners want for his services. There are still plenty of other wide players the Hammers could sign instead, so, if the price isn’t right, then Arsenal may have to try and generate interest from elsewhere.
