“Really special” | West Ham’s Bowen beaming after England win

West Ham star Jarrod Bowen was overjoyed to be involved in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia.

Outside of West Ham, many England fans were left baffled as to why Jarrod Bowen was put in the England squad over players like Jack Grealish. They were even more confused when he was chosen to come on in a vital final 15 minutes of their match against Serbia. As every Hammer suspected he would, Bowen quickly shut the doubters up.

He replaced Saka who, despite an immense first-half, was poor after the break. Quickly Bowen showed off his attacking ability as well as his defensive work rates. Within just a minute or so of being on the pitch, he put in an inch perfect cross to Harry Kane who was only denied by a superb save.

Although that first goal involvement for his country still managed to elude him, the West Ham star was jubilant to be given the opportunity to prove himself. “Getting selected for the squad was one thing, and then I told myself that I wanted to set foot on the pitch,” he stated. “I’ve managed to do that, and on an occasion where we were defending a lead. To be part of that, in such significant circumstances, was really special for me personally, but getting the result was also really important for the team.”

“It was the first group game, which is always huge, and we’ve got the three points that we can take into Thursday [against Denmark] now. Hopefully we can get another positive result in that game.”

Considering how well he played, it would be criminal for him not to get more minutes throughout the tournament and England fans will be praying that he can have the same impact for his country as he does for his club – especially his ability to show up in big games which is something some of teammates lack.
