‘You could see’: Kyle Walker shares what he noticed about Tottenham’s players last night

Kyle Walker has shared what he noticed about Tottenham Hotspur’s players in last night’s 2-0 victory in north London

It was a happy return to Spurs for Kyle Walker as Manchester City moved closer to securing their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

A second-half brace from Erling Haaland saw City leapfrog Arsenal to the top of the table heading into the final day of the season.

It was a strange evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with plenty of Spurs supporters relieved to see City take all three points and move above their north London rivals.

Much was made about Tottenham ahead of the game and whether or not their players would be fully committed in the knowledge that a result could hand Arsenal the title.

But former Spurs man Walker has no doubts that Ange Postecoglou’s side left it all on the pitch last night.

Walker makes claim about Tottenham’s players

Speaking to Sky Sports, Walker shared what he noticed about Postecoglou’s men on Tuesday evening.

“We’re competitors and people have to understand, never mind if it’s a training session or a game in the Premier League, Spurs could still have gone on and got the Champions League. Aston Villa going to Crystal Palace was still a difficult game,” the former Tottenham defender said.

“You could see they were putting everything on the line to try and win the game, which as professionals they are meant to do. But from a Man City point of view, we had to block all that.”

Despite Tottenham fans being divided on the night, Spurs’ players and Postecoglou showed a clear intent to pick up all three points.

The Lilywhites even had big chances to level the game, with Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son both going close before Haaland doubled City’s lead from the penalty spot.

Walker aims dig at Arsenal fans

Given his spell at Tottenham, Walker will undoubtedly be delighted should City complete the job this weekend and deny Arsenal a title.

Videos of Arsenal fans setting off fireworks outside a hotel were doing the rounds on social media ahead of yesterday’s game.

Walker took little time to confirm that City’s squad weren’t at the hotel and aimed a cheeky dig at Arsenal’s supporters in the process.

“These are the games you want to play in as a footballer. The feeling I have got on the pitch there, when we score for 2-0, you don’t experience that too often,” he said.

“It’s not the fact that’s the Premier League done, finished. It’s the emotion. Last night I couldn’t sleep.

“Then you got into the hotel today, I’ve heard they have tried to set fireworks off. They have missed us. But it’s little things when you are trying to scramble off for an hour in the afternoon just to get my head down.”
