West Ham midfielder impresses Lopetegui
Julen Lopetegui is prepared to offer Flynn Downes an opportunity to revive his West Ham career by involving him in the Hammers’ pre-season training. Downes, a West Ham fan, is currently on loan at Championship club Southampton and is widely regarded as one of the best players in the division.
Reports now suggest that the Hammers are ready to give him a chance to impress upon his return to see if he can secure a spot in the first team. If Southampton succeed in their promotion bid, they might pursue a permanent deal for the midfielder.
In a recent Claret & Hugh exclusive, a top source at West Ham confirmed that Downes has a chance of re-joining the Hammers’ setup.
Hammers Resurrect Zaha Transfer
Southampton manager Russell Martin recently emphasised how essential Downes is to his team. If he does not return to West Ham this summer, the club may struggle to replace him. Martin has openly acknowledged how much the team misses Downes in his absence, saying:
“This team has missed him so much when he hasn’t played. We haven’t quite been able to replace him when he hasn’t played.
“I thought we all stepped up, and Joe Rothwell came on at Leeds and was brilliant when Flynn did go off the pitch.
“But Flynn is really important, and last weekend provided important minutes for him. He got through it, and now he’ll be good.”
