Feyenoord make approach to sign West Ham ace after Moyes played him yesterday – report

Feyenoord make approach to sign West Ham United defender Ben Johnson after David Moyes decision

Feyenoord have made an approach to sign Ben Johnson from West Ham United this summer, according to the Sunday People.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 31 March (page 53) that the 24-year-old is free to speak to overseas clubs due to the fact his contract at West Ham expires at the end of the season.

It is understood that he’s failed to agree a new deal at the London Stadium and that has opened the door for Feyenoord to make a move to sign him.

Will Ben Johnson leave West Ham United in summer transfer window?

It seems very likely that Johnson will be on his way out of the London Stadium this summer.

Although the former England Under-21 international was a very bright graduate of the Hammers’ famous academy, he hasn’t really kicked on in recent years.

He’s played over 100 times in all competitions for the Irons but there haven’t been too many memorable performances as of late and David Moyes has used the right-back sparingly this season.

Out of his 11 Premier League appearances, he’s only made four starts with the last one coming in the 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Arsenal at home on 11 February.

Moyes has called upon Johnson to come off the bench in the last two games, including Saturday’s 4-3 loss at Newcastle, but his recent appearances won’t convince either party that he’s worthy of a new contract.

Johnson has not only been linked with Feyenoord because Crystal Palace, Leeds, Southampton, Real Betis – managed by former Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini – and Villarreal are also said to be tracking the defender.

West Ham shouldn’t care too much about where he ends up but it would be preferable if he was to move abroad.

In other West Ham news, Michael Owen has been left fuming amid a recent controversy in London involving the Hammers.
