“Announced his retirement” | David Moyes’ unexpected achievement

David Moyes put in a managerial display so good that he has seemingly forced another manager to retire.

No matter your opinion on David Moyes’ style of play, it is a matter of fact that it has stood the test of time. Now the oldest manager in the Premier League, Moyes has outlasted the large majority of his fellow head coaches around the world.

However, it is not all that often that he has managed to cement a manager’s retirement, but he seems to have done just that.

To say West Ham tore Freiburg apart in the second leg would be an understatement. The Hammers absolutely blew them away with the 5-0 scoreline being generous to the German’s. Such a heavy defeat has been too much for Freiburg’s head coach Christian Streich though, as he today has announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Streich has been a coach at Freiburg for 29 years, managing them for the last 13. In every sense of the word, he is a club legend who completely transformed their whole philosophy.

Unfortunately for the 58-year-old, things have not quite gone how he would have hoped this season, The Breisgau Brazilians currently sit 9th in the league, 7 points off a European place and are now out of all cup competitions.

Across all 4 matches, Streich remained respectful of our Irons and, despite falling short on Thursday, his side played some good football.

David Moyes has had quite the run at West Ham, giving them three seasons of European football in a row, winning his first major trophy as a manager and, now, he is ending careers – it really is remarkable.
