Aston Villa may attempt to sign West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta in the Summer, according to a journalist.
Both West Ham and Aston Villa’s rise to the top 7 has happened extremely fast. The two claret and blues went from fighting relegation to being in Europe within a season and this term they are both in the runnings once again.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, Villa are enjoying a significantly better season than them, sitting comfortably in 4th place and are just 8 points of 1st placed Liverpool. Much to West Ham’s dismay, it seems like Champions League football may give them a massive advantage when it comes to potential signings.
GIVEMESPORT’s Dean Jones believes that there is every chance that Aston Villa will try to sign Lucas Paqueta ahead of next season and, with the lure of playing in the most prestigious competition in club football, there is a possibility that they succeed in convincing the Brazilian.
“I don’t think that Aston Villa would be a bad move for Paqueta, to be honest.” Jones claimed. “But, if he is going to leave West Ham, it’s going to take something special in terms of what they are promising him for the future.”
“Considering his performances across the season, you could probably say that he is West Ham’s most important player in terms of making that team tick. Villa obviously have their work cut out in terms of signing him because I have heard that Manchester City are still interested in him and might have something to say about where he goes next.”
“I can’t believe for one second that Villa would be able to sign Paqueta without some competition from Manchester City. It’s a tough deal to do – and probably expensive – but I think it is also a reflection of just where Villa are right now and where they’re heading.”
Despite the Champions League football, you can not help but feel like going to Villa would be a bit of a sidestep for Paqueta. While their squad is brilliant, there is certainly an argument to be made that they are overachieving and, as Newcastle have discovered, following up on that success again is extremely difficult.
There is no doubt that our Brazilian Magnifico is good enough to play at the very top, but it is also obvious that he loves West Ham. Would he really leave for someone other than the likes of Manchester City if we get Europe again?
