A West Ham United player could be set for a surprise recall to the starting XI in place of Jarrod Bowen tomorrow night against Freiburg.
Jarrod Bowen has led the line really well for West Ham in recent weeks, but he could be set to sit out the Europa League clash with Freiburg.
Well, that’s what Claret and Hugh are suggesting, after they posted a probable Hammers lineup for the game, with Said Benrahma, 28, coming into the side in place of Bowen.
David Moyes badly needs a win tomorrow, or no worse than a draw and the same can be said for our Premier League clash with Wolves on Sunday, although three points is a must in that game.
West Ham have put in some really poor performances of late.
We will need to show more attacking intent and some real quality inside the final third on Thursday, if we are to win the game. So with that in mind, Moyes dropping Bowen for Benrahma really would be a shock…
Benrahma could start for West Ham vs Freiburg
The Algerian winger has been incredibly poor this season, and has hardly played of late, with just 485 Premier League minutes to his name since the beginning of the campaign (Transfermarkt).
It really would shock me if Benny lines up from the start tomorrow. If he does play, that would mean either Lucas Paqueta or Mohammed Kudus will be operating in the false nine role.
Benrahma can still be a useful player for Moyes to bring on from the bench, and I think using him as a second-half substitute would be in the Scot’s best interest.
As mentioned earlier, Moyes cannot afford for his team to lose to Freiburg, so it would be hugely surprising if he leaves out Bowen – our best player by a country mile.
In my opinion, Bowen will start the game up front, but who knows, maybe Moyes will in fact spring a surprise.
West Ham need a result against Freiburg tomorrow though, and out best chances of doing that are directly correlated to whether or not Moyes plays Bowen from the start as far as I’m concerned.
